My name is Tara Mostafavi. I’m a recent graduate of UC Santa Barbara, and I will be attending law school this fall. During my gap year, I was a language and culture assistant in Cantabria, Spain!

I’m in my hometown of Los Gatos until law school. Looking forward to spending time with friends and family, reading, playing piano, and participating in new enriching activities!

In addition to studying Communication and Professional Writing, I immersed myself in enriching communities at UC Santa Barbara such as Model UN and WORD magazine, becoming a competitive debater and writer. A bit about those experiences are below:

Model UN

I entered this club interested in global issues and to improve my public speaking skills. I left with the confidence gained from speaking impromptu in front of hundreds of people, and the biggest leadership role I’ve had in my life: Secretary-General.

WORD Magazine

Craving the ability to craft stories and share them with my college peers, I joined this Isla Vista Arts magazine. Through research and writing stories for the magazine, I discovered deeper purposes.

Professional Writing Minor (Business Communication Track)

The Grammar Stylistics course completely transformed how I write. Legal Writing confirmed my interest in law and my success in the course empowered me to pursue law as a career.

I also learned how to meet a client’s needs with the knowledge I obtained about design and word choice.

At UC Santa Barbara, my interest in law grew through my minor’s Legal Writing course, Communication major, and Model UN competitions.

Legal Writing: I enjoyed forming an argument using logic, word choice, and storytelling.

Communication Major: Learning about applying laws to national issues caught my attention.

Model UN competitions: I developed a particular interest in international law by analyzing countries’ stances on global crises.

Me when I studied abroad in Paris, France! I had a lovely time learning about another culture and practicing my French. Other languages I know are Spanish and Farsi. I put my Spanish to use by teaching in Spain before attending law school.

I hope to continue traveling abroad, expanding my knowledge about the world through real-life experiences!
