Click on ‘Does it Actually End with Us?’ to read Tara’s book review published Isla Vista Arts Magazine, WORD.
My article, “Does it Actually End with Us” in WORD Magazine’s 50th issue, addresses controversy about Colleen Hoover’s It Ends with Us and provides answers to why young adults read ‘toxic’ romance novels. I accomplished this by maintaining a balance between information from several outside sources and my own voice. Further, I used my knowledge from my Grammar and Stylistics course to show instead of tell. Since WORD Magazine’s readers are mostly college students, I catered my writing to them.
I accomplished this by interviewing young adults in Isla Vista and using their opinions on the book to construct an answer to the question. All the while, I left out my own bias about the book to adhere to the unbiased standard of journalistic writing. Although I wrote the article on Google Docs, WORD magazine artists formatted the article using InDesign software. Once the magazine was completed, my article was printed in the magazine, and distributed online and in physical locations in UC Santa Barbara and surrounding it.
