The Skills Matrix was created for one of my Professional Writing minor’s courses, listing my skills categorized by type. Created using Google Docs, this document is for potential employers because it demonstrates my skills, organizing them by type. For instance, I put the languages I speak under ‘Languages.’ This way, I used proximity to make my matrix easy to read and understand because everything is sorted. I used numbers 3,2, and 1 ranging from expert to novice as a rating system to make it easy to see my varying proficiency levels.
This document also shows my design skills and attention to detail. For example, I chose the document’s fonts–Dosis, Teko, and Roboto–because they are easily legible online. I bolded some typefaces to create contrast and guide the document viewer to information sections. For instance, the key for how to interpret the document is in bold. Moreover, I intentionally included analogous colors–green, blue, and purple–to create subtle contrast and cohesion, making my document visually appealing and establishing unity. Overall, my skills matrix shows my skills and how proficient I am in each one.
